Background: Heme oxygenase 2 (HMOX2), also known as HO-2, is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the HMOX2 gene. It is mapped to 16p13.3. HMOX2 belongs to the heme oxygenase family. Heme oxygenase cleaves the heme ring at the alpha methene bridge to form biliverdin. Biliverdin is subsequently converted to bilirubin by biliverdin reductase. Under physiological conditions, the activity of heme oxygenase is highest in the spleen, where senescent erythrocytes are sequestrated and destroyed. Heme oxygenase 2 could be implicated in the production of carbon monoxide in brain where it could act as a neurotransmitter.
NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
NCBI Description
Heme oxygenase, an essential enzyme in heme catabolism, cleaves heme to form biliverdin, which is subsequently converted to bilirubin by biliverdin reductase, and carbon monoxide, a putative neurotransmitter. Heme oxygenase activity is induced by its substrate heme and by various nonheme substances. Heme oxygenase occurs as 2 isozymes, an inducible heme oxygenase-1 and a constitutive heme oxygenase-2. HMOX1 and HMOX2 belong to the heme oxygenase family. Several alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding three different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2013]

The Anti-HMOX2 Antibody reacts with Human. No cross reactivity with other proteins. and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Heme oxygenase 2 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), Immunohistochemistry (IHC-P). Western Blot: Concentration: 0.1-0.5mug/ml; Tested Species: Human Immunohistochemistry (Paraffin-embedded Section): Concentration: 0.5-1mug/ml; Tested Species: Human. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the HMOX2 hmox2 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Heme oxygenase 2, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
