NCBI Description

This gene product belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor 1 family. Even though this protein shares similarity with the melatonin receptors, it does not bind melatonin, however, it inhibits melatonin receptor 1A function through heterodimerization. Polymorphic variants of this gene have been associated with bipolar affective disorder in women. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2010]

Uniprot Description

GPR50: an orphan G protein coupled receptor with high sequence homology to the melatonin receptors MT1 and MT2. Does not bind melatonin. Forms heterodimers with MT1 and MT2 and acts as a negative regulator of MT1 agonist binding and G protein coupling; inhibition of melatonin receptor activity is dependent on the long, proline-rich carboxy terminal tail of GPR50. On a physiological level, GPR50 is involved in the regulation of adaptive thermoregulation in mammals and deletion of GPR50 in mice produces a profound effect on the response to fasting and facilitates entry into torpor. Polymorphisms in the corresponding GPR50 gene are associated with bipolar affective disorder and major depressive disorder in women, indicating that variation in GPR50 may be an important gender-specific risk factor for certain mental disorders. Belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor 1 family.

Product Notes

The GPR50 gpr50 (Catalog #AAA6303943) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The GPR50, ID (GPR50, Melatonin-related receptor, G protein-coupled receptor 50, H9) (APC) reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's GPR50 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Flow Cytometry (FC/FACS), FLISA, Western Blot (WB). FC/FACS: 1:10-50 FLISA: 1:1,000 WB: 1:100-500 Applications are based on unconjugated antibody. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the GPR50 gpr50 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "GPR50, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
