NCBI Description

This gene encodes a member of the glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor receptor (GDNFR) family of proteins. The encoded preproprotein is proteolytically processed to generate the mature receptor. Glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) and neurturin (NTN) are two structurally related, potent neurotrophic factors that play key roles in the control of neuron survival and differentiation. This receptor is a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-linked cell surface receptor for both GDNF and NTN, and mediates activation of the RET tyrosine kinase receptor. This gene is a candidate gene for Hirschsprung disease. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants, at least one of which encodes a preproprotein that is proteolytically processed. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2016]

Uniprot Description

GFRA1: Receptor for GDNF. Mediates the GDNF-induced autophosphorylation and activation of the RET receptor. Belongs to the GDNFR family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Membrane protein, GPI anchor; Receptor, misc.

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 10q25.3

Cellular Component: extrinsic component of membrane; intracellular; plasma membrane

Molecular Function: glial cell-derived neurotrophic factor receptor activity; Ras guanyl-nucleotide exchange factor activity; receptor binding

Biological Process: axon guidance; cell surface receptor signaling pathway; MAPK cascade; positive regulation of GTPase activity

Product Notes

The GFRa1 gfra1 (Catalog #AAA2007151) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Polyclonal Antibody to Glial Cell Line Derived Neurotrophic Factor Receptor Alpha 1 (GFRa1) reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Glial Cell Line Derived Neurotrophic Factor Receptor Alpha 1 (GFRa1) can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Immunocytochemistry (ICC), Immunohistochemistry (IHC) - Formalin/Paraffin, ELISA (EIA), Western Blot (WB). Western blotting: 1:100-400 Immunocytochemistry in formalin fixed cells: 1:100-500 Immunohistochemistry in formalin fixed frozen section: 1:100-500 Immunohistochemistry in paraffin section: 1:50-200 Enzyme-linked Immunosorbent Assay: 1:100-200. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the GFRa1 gfra1 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. The amino acid sequence is listed below: Antigen: The target protein is fused with N-terminal His-Tag and its sequence is listed below. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Glial Cell Line Derived Neurotrophic Factor Receptor Alpha 1 (GFRa1), Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
