Related Product Information for anti-GFAP antibody
GFAP is a cell-specific marker which belongs to the intermediate filament family. It can distinguish astrocytes from other glial cells during development. GFAP is expressed in cells lacking fibronectin. It is a type III intermediate filaments protein which contains three domains: the head, rod and tail domains. GFAP functions in many important entral nervous system (CNS) processes, including cell communication and the functioning of the blood brain barrier. Improper GFAP regulation can cause multiple disorders. Defects in GFAP is related to Alexander disease which is a rare disorder of the central nervous system. It is a progressive leukoencephalopathy whose hallmark is the widespread accumulation of Rosenthal fibers which are cytoplasmic inclusions in astrocytes.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes one of the major intermediate filament proteins of mature astrocytes. It is used as a marker to distinguish astrocytes from other glial cells during development. Mutations in this gene cause Alexander disease, a rare disorder of astrocytes in the central nervous system. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2008]

Uniprot Description

GFAP: a class-III intermediate filament protein. A cell-specific marker that, during the development of the central nervous system, distinguishes astrocytes from other glial cells. Mutations in this gene cause Alexander disease, a rare disorder of astrocytes in the central nervous system. An additional transcript variant isoform has been described, but its full length sequence has not been determined.

Protein type: Cytoskeletal

Product Notes

The GFAP gfap (Catalog #AAA8100142) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Anti-GFAP Antibody, Rabbit Polyclonal reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's GFAP can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), Immunohistochemistry-Paraffin (IHC-P). WB: 1:500-1:1000 IHC-P: 1:10,000-1:50,000. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the GFAP gfap for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "GFAP, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
