NCBI Description

This gene is located in a gene cluster within the human major histocompatibility complex class III region on chromosome 6. This gene was thought to be two different genes, NG36 and G9a, adjacent to each other but recent publications show that there is only a single gene at this locus. The encoded protein is a histone methyltransferase, which may be involved in repression of transcription. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2014]

Uniprot Description

EHMT2 iso4: Histone methyltransferase. Preferentially methylates 'Lys-9' of histone H3 and 'Lys-27' of histone H3 (in vitro). H3 'Lys-9' methylation represents a specific tag for epigenetic transcriptional repression by recruiting HP1 proteins to methylated histones. Probably targeted to histone H3 by different DNA-binding proteins like E2F6, MGA, MAX and/or DP1. Also methylates histone H1. Belongs to the histone-lysine methyltransferase family. Suvar3-9 subfamily. Part of the E2F6.com-1 complex in G0 phase composed of E2F6, MGA, MAX, TFDP1, CBX3, BAT8, EUHMTASE1, RING1, RNF2, MBLR, L3MBTL2 and YAF2. Interacts with GFI1B, WIZ and EHMT1. 3 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Methyltransferase, protein lysine; Amino Acid Metabolism - lysine degradation; Methyltransferase; EC 2.1.1.43

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 6p21.31

Cellular Component: nucleoplasm; intermediate filament cytoskeleton; intracellular membrane-bound organelle; nuclear chromatin; nucleus

Molecular Function: protein binding; zinc ion binding; p53 binding; histone lysine N-methyltransferase activity (H3-K9 specific); protein-lysine N-methyltransferase activity; histone-lysine N-methyltransferase activity; histone lysine N-methyltransferase activity (H3-K27 specific)

Biological Process: histone methylation; establishment and/or maintenance of chromatin architecture; peptidyl-lysine di-methylation; DNA methylation; negative regulation of transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter; regulation of DNA replication; histone H3-K9 methylation

Product Notes

The G9a ehmt2 (Catalog #AAA6477253) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The G9a (EHMT2, BAT8, C6orf30, Em:AF134726.3, Euchromatic histone-lysine N-methyltransferase 2, G9A, H3-K9-HMTase 3, Histone H3-K9 methyltransferase 3, Histone-lysine N-methyltransferase, H3 lysine-9 specific 3, HLA-B-associated transcript 8, NG36, NG36/G9a, reacts with Human, Mouse and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's G9a can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB). WB: 0.25-2ug/ml Applications are based on unconjugated antibody. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the G9a ehmt2 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "G9a, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
