Related Product Information for anti-FBN1 antibody
The fibrillin family of proteins, including fibrillin-1 (FBN1) and fibrillin-2 (FBN2), are integral components of a distinct subset of extracellular microfibrils. Microfibrils are found in elastic tissues where they facilitate elastic fiber formation and in nonelastic tissue where they support the association of the epithelial cells with the interstitial matrix. Characteristic of the fibrillin proteins are the epidermal growth factor (EGF)-like motifs, which contain a consensus sequence for calcium binding. This calcium association may be critical for protein-protein interactions and stabilization of the microfibrils. Mutations of the FBN1 gene have been shown to result in Marfan syndrome, a disease characterized by abnormal synthesis, secretion and matrix deposition of fibrillin. FBN2 is also linked to a rare, yet similiar, skeletal disorder, congenital contractural arachnodactyly.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a member of the fibrillin family of proteins. The encoded preproprotein is proteolytically processed to generate two proteins including the extracellular matrix component fibrillin-1 and the protein hormone asprosin. Fibrillin-1 is an extracellular matrix glycoprotein that serves as a structural component of calcium-binding microfibrils. These microfibrils provide force-bearing structural support in elastic and nonelastic connective tissue throughout the body. Asprosin, secreted by white adipose tissue, has been shown to regulate glucose homeostasis. Mutations in this gene are associated with Marfan syndrome and the related MASS phenotype, as well as ectopia lentis syndrome, Weill-Marchesani syndrome, Shprintzen-Goldberg syndrome and neonatal progeroid syndrome. [provided by RefSeq, Apr 2016]

Uniprot Description

FBN1: a large, extracellular matrix glycoprotein of the fibrillin family that serves as a structural component of 10-12 nm calcium-binding microfibrils, which occur either in association with elastin or in elastin-free bundles. Fibrillin-1- containing microfibrils provide long-term force bearing structural support in elastic and nonelastic connective tissue throughout the body. May regulate osteoblast maturation by controlling TGF-beta bioavailability and calibrating TGF-beta and BMP levels, respectively. Defects in this protein are associated with Marfan syndrome, isolated ectopia lentis, autosomal dominant Weill-Marchesani syndrome, MASS syndrome, and Shprintzen-Goldberg craniosynostosis syndrome. Interacts with COL16A1.

Product Notes

The FBN1 fbn1 (Catalog #AAA3000521) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The FBN1 (N2843) Polyclonal Antibody reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's FBN1 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Immunohistochemistry (IHC). IHC: 1:50-1:200. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the FBN1 fbn1 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "FBN1, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
