Related Product Information for anti-DCC antibody
Deleted in colorectal cancer (DCC) was originally identified as a putative tumor suppressor gene that is lost in more than 70% of colorectal cancers. The gene has also been deleted in several other types of cancer. The DCC protein is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein that belongs to the immunoglobulin (Ig) superfamily. The extracellular domain is composed of four Ig-like domains and six fibronectin type III repeats. Native DCC is found in three isoforms. Two forms, a long and a short isoform, are produced from the same gene but have different initiation sites. The third isoform, produced by alternative splicing, is expressed only in embryonic tissue. Mouse DCC extracellular domain shares 97% and 99% homology with human and rat DCC extracellular domains, respectively. In adults, DCC is highly expressed in the brain but is also expressed at very low levels in multiple normal tissues. In the embyro, high levels of expression are detected in the brain and neural tube. DCC functions as a receptor or a component of a receptor for netrins and mediates the effects of netrins on commissural axons. Netrins are chemoattractants responsible for the guidance of commissural axons at the midline and of motor axons to the their target muscles. DCC induces apoptosis in the absence of ligand binding, blocks apoptosis when engaged by netrin 1, and also acts as a caspase substrate.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a netrin 1 receptor. The transmembrane protein is a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily of cell adhesion molecules, and mediates axon guidance of neuronal growth cones towards sources of netrin 1 ligand. The cytoplasmic tail interacts with the tyrosine kinases Src and focal adhesion kinase (FAK, also known as PTK2) to mediate axon attraction. The protein partially localizes to lipid rafts, and induces apoptosis in the absence of ligand. The protein functions as a tumor suppressor, and is frequently mutated or downregulated in colorectal cancer and esophageal carcinoma. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2009]

Uniprot Description

DCC: Receptor for netrin required for axon guidance. Mediates axon attraction of neuronal growth cones in the developing nervous system upon ligand binding. Its association with UNC5 proteins may trigger signaling for axon repulsion. It also acts as a dependence receptor required for apoptosis induction when not associated with netrin ligand. Implicated as a tumor suppressor gene. Defects in DCC are the cause of mirror movements type 1 (MRMV1). A disorder characterized by contralateral involuntary movements that mirror voluntary ones. While mirror movements are occasionally found in young children, persistence beyond the age of 10 is abnormal. Mirror movements occur more commonly in the upper extremities. Belongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily. DCC family.

Protein type: Immunoglobulin superfamily; Membrane protein, integral; Receptor, misc.; Tumor suppressor

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 18q21.2

Cellular Component: cytosol; plasma membrane

Molecular Function: protein binding; transmembrane receptor activity

Biological Process: apoptosis; axon guidance; axonogenesis; negative regulation of collateral sprouting

Product Notes

The DCC dcc (Catalog #AAA460378) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Rabbit anti DCC Polyclonal Antibody reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's DCC can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, ELISA (EIA), Flow Cytometry (FC/FACS), Immunohistochemistry (IHC), Immunoprecipitation (IP), Western Blot (WB). ELISA: 0.01-0.1 ug/ml Flow Cytometry: 5-10 ug/ml Immunohistochemistry: 2-10 ug/ml Immunoprecipitation: 2-5 ug/ml Western Blot: 0.1-1 ug/ml. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the DCC dcc for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "DCC, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
