DAAM2 is a recently identified planar cell polarity (PCP) signaling molecule implicated in the regulation of cellular polarity, convergent extension, and invasion. DAM2 belongs to the formin homology family and contains aDD (diaphanous autoregulatory) domain, an FH1 (formin homology 1) domain, an FH2 (formin homology 2) domain and a GBD/FH3 (Rho GTPase-binding/ formin homology 3) domain. The DAM2 protein is known to be involved in cell divison. Though the exact function of DAM2 is yet unknown, reports suggest that it is closely related to DAM1 and hence along with DAM1 it may also be required in Wnt/Fz signaling and activation of Rho and in regulating cytoskeleton architecture. It is expressed in most of tissues but the expression level is higher in brain.
