NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
NCBI Description
This gene encodes the peroxisomal enzyme D-amino acid oxidase. The enzyme is a flavoprotein which uses flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD) as its prosthetic group. Its substrates include a wide variety of D-amino acids, but it is inactive on the naturally occurring L-amino acids. Its biological function is not known; it may act as a detoxifying agent which removes D-amino acids that accumulate during aging. In mice, it degrades D-serine, a co-agonist of the NMDA receptor. This gene may play a role in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia. [provided by RefSeq]
Uniprot Description
DAO: Regulates the level of the neuromodulator D-serine in the brain. Has high activity towards D-DOPA and contributes to dopamine synthesis. Could act as a detoxifying agent which removes D-amino acids accumulated during aging. Acts on a variety of D- amino acids with a preference for those having small hydrophobic side chains followed by those bearing polar, aromatic, and basic groups. Does not act on acidic amino acids. Belongs to the DAMOX/DASOX family.
Protein type: Oxidoreductase; Amino Acid Metabolism - arginine and proline; Amino Acid Metabolism - glycine, serine and threonine; EC 1.4.3.3; Other Amino Acids Metabolism - D-Arginine and D-ornithine
Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 12q24

Product Notes
The DAO dao (Catalog #AAA615012) is an Antibody produced from Sheep and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The D-Amino Acid Oxidase (D-AAO, D-Amino acid: oxygen oxidoreductase, deaminating, DAO, OXDA) (HRP) reacts with Porcine, Sheep and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's D-Amino Acid Oxidase can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, ELISA (EL/EIA), Western Blot (WB). Suitable for use in Western Blot, ELISA and Immunoprecipitation. Dilution: ELISA: 1:5000-1:60,000 Western Blot: 1:500-1:5000. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the DAO dao for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "D-Amino Acid Oxidase, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
