NCBI Description

This gene encodes the final component of the complement system. It participates in the formation of the Membrane Attack Complex (MAC). The MAC assembles on bacterial membranes to form a pore, permitting disruption of bacterial membrane organization. Mutations in this gene cause component C9 deficiency. [provided by RefSeq, Feb 2009]

Uniprot Description

C9: Constituent of the membrane attack complex (MAC) that plays a key role in the innate and adaptive immune response by forming pores in the plasma membrane of target cells. C9 is the pore-forming subunit of the MAC. Defects in C9 are a cause of complement component 9 deficiency (C9D). A rare defect of the complement classical pathway associated with susceptibility to severe recurrent infections, predominantly by Neisseria gonorrhoeae or Neisseria meningitidis. Belongs to the complement C6/C7/C8/C9 family.

Protein type: Apoptosis; Extracellular matrix; Membrane protein, integral; Membrane protein, multi-pass

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 5p13.1

Cellular Component: cytosol; extracellular region; extracellular space; integral component of plasma membrane; membrane attack complex; plasma membrane

Biological Process: cell killing; complement activation, alternative pathway; complement activation, classical pathway; hemolysis by symbiont of host red blood cells; protein homooligomerization; regulation of complement activation

Disease: Complement Component 9 Deficiency; Macular Degeneration, Age-related, 15

Product Notes

The C9 c9 (Catalog #AAA2028726) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Polyclonal Antibody to Complement Component 9 (C9) reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Complement Component 9 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), Immunocytochemistry (ICC), Immunohistochemistry (IHC) Formalin/Paraffin, ELISA (EIA). Western blotting: 0.5-5ug/mL Immunohistochemistry: 5-20ug/mL Immunocytochemistry: 5-20ug/mL Optimal working dilutions must be determined by end user. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the C9 c9 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. The amino acid sequence is listed below: Antigen: The target protein is fused with two N-terminal Tags, His-tag and T7-tag and its sequence is listed below. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Complement Component 9, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
