Application Notes
Suitable for use in Western Blot, Immunoprecipitation and Immunocytochemistry.
Dilution: Western Blot: 0.5-2ug/ml detected cdc2 from human A431, mouse 3T3 and rat L6 RIPA cell lysates.
Immunoprecipitation: 4ug Immunoprecipitates cdc2 from 500ug of A431 RIPA lysates.
Immunogen
Synthetic peptide corresponding to aa 42-57, EGVPSTAIREISLLKE-GGC, of human cdc2 kinase. The immunogen is identical in a wide range of species.
Preparation and Storage
May be stored at 4 degree C for short-term only. For long-term storage and to avoid repeated freezing and thawing, add sterile 40-50% glycerol, aliquot and store at -20 degree C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months at -20 degree C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.

NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the Ser/Thr protein kinase family. This protein is a catalytic subunit of the highly conserved protein kinase complex known as M-phase promoting factor (MPF), which is essential for G1/S and G2/M phase transitions of eukaryotic cell cycle. Mitotic cyclins stably associate with this protein and function as regulatory subunits. The kinase activity of this protein is controlled by cyclin accumulation and destruction through the cell cycle. The phosphorylation and dephosphorylation of this protein also play important regulatory roles in cell cycle control. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq]

Activated in many cancers including colon, liver and breast. The T isoform, which lacks a regulatory region, is expressed in breast cancer. Inhibition in cancer cells may drive cells into apoptosis.
