Specificity
This item detects CD136, a receptor tyrosine kinase also known as Macrophage stimulating 1 receptor (MST1R) and RON (Recepteur d'origine nantais). CD136 is a member of the MET proto-oncogene family, and is the receptor for macrophage-stimulating protein (MSP), a multifunctional cytokine that regulates cell adhesion, motility, growth, and survival.

CD136 is a disulfide-linked 180kD heterodimer composed of a 40kD alpha chain and a 150kD beta chain, and is mainly expressed in cells of epithelial origin. In immune cells CD136 expression is restricted to certain types of tissue macrophages, and its activation is critical in modulating macrophage activities and preventing an excessive inflammatory response. CD136 is also required for embryonic development.

CD136 expression is significantly altered in several primary human cancers including those of the breast and colon.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a cell surface receptor for macrophage-stimulating protein (MSP) with tyrosine kinase activity. The mature form of this protein is a heterodimer of disulfide-linked alpha and beta subunits, generated by proteolytic cleavage of a single-chain precursor. The beta subunit undergoes tyrosine phosphorylation upon stimulation by MSP. This protein is expressed on the ciliated epithelia of the mucociliary transport apparatus of the lung, and together with MSP, thought to be involved in host defense. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms with different structural and biochemical properties have been described (PMID:8816464). [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2011]

Uniprot Description

Ron: a receptor tyrosine kinase of the Met family. Receptor for macrophage stimulating protein. Can be desensitized by c-Cbl and its binding partner Grb2. Overexpression of wild-type RON causes the formation of lung tumors. Two alternatively spliced isoforms have been described.

Product Notes

The CD136 mst1r (Catalog #AAA222802) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. AAA Biotech's CD136 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Immunohistology Paraffin*. Immunohistology - Paraffin: Maximum Dilution: 5ug/ml; Application Note: This product requires antigen retrieval using heat treatment prior to staining of paraffin sections. Sodium citrate buffer pH 6.0 is recommended for this purpose. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the CD136 mst1r for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "CD136, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
