NCBI Description

To reach fertilization competence, spermatozoa undergo a series of morphological and molecular maturational processes, termed capacitation, involving protein tyrosine phosphorylation and increased intracellular calcium. The protein encoded by this gene localizes to the principal piece of the sperm flagellum in association with the fibrous sheath and exhibits calcium-binding when phosphorylated during capacitation. A pseudogene on chromosome 3 has been identified for this gene. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct protein isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2013]

Uniprot Description

CABYR: May function as a regulator of both motility- and head- associated functions such as capacitation and the acrosome reaction. Isoform 1 binds calcium in vitro. Isoform 2 and isoform 6 probably bind calcium. Isoform 3 and isoform 5 do not bind calcium in vitro. Isoform 4 probably does not bind calcium. 6 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Cancer Testis Antigen (CTA); Calcium-binding

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 18q11.2

Cellular Component: cytoskeleton; cytoplasm; nucleolus; nucleus

Molecular Function: enzyme binding; protein heterodimerization activity; calcium ion binding; SH3 domain binding

Biological Process: sperm capacitation

Product Notes

The CABYR cabyr (Catalog #AAA821971) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Anti-CBP86 Antibody reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's CBP86 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB). WB (1/500 - 1/1000). Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the CABYR cabyr for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "CBP86, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
