Related Product Information for anti-CASP2 antibody
CASP2 is a protein which is a member of the cysteine-aspartic acid protease (caspase) family. Sequential activation of caspases plays a central role in the execution-phase of cell apoptosis. The protein exist as inactive proenzymes which undergo proteolytic processing at conserved aspartic residues to produce two subunits, large and small, that dimerize to form the active enzyme. The proteolytic cleavage of this protein is induced by a variety of apoptotic stimuli.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a member of the cysteine-aspartic acid protease (caspase) family. Caspases mediate cellular apoptosis through the proteolytic cleavage of specific protein substrates. The encoded protein may function in stress-induced cell death pathways, cell cycle maintenance, and the suppression of tumorigenesis. Increased expression of this gene may play a role in neurodegenerative disorders including Alzheimer's disease, Huntington's disease and temporal lobe epilepsy. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding multiple isoforms have been observed for this gene. [provided by RefSeq]

Uniprot Description

CASP2: Involved in the activation cascade of caspases responsible for apoptosis execution. Might function by either activating some proteins required for cell death or inactivating proteins necessary for cell survival. Heterotetramer that consists of two anti-parallel arranged heterodimers, each one formed by a p18 subunit and a p12 subunit. Interacts with LRDD. Expressed at higher levels in the embryonic lung, liver and kidney than in the heart and brain. In adults, higher level expression is seen in the placenta, lung, kidney, and pancreas than in the heart, brain, liver and skeletal muscle. Belongs to the peptidase C14A family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Apoptosis; EC 3.4.22.55; Protease

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 7q34-q35

Cellular Component: mitochondrion; membrane; cytoplasm; cytosol; nucleus

Molecular Function: protein domain specific binding; protein binding; enzyme binding; cysteine-type endopeptidase activity

Biological Process: luteolysis; nerve growth factor receptor signaling pathway; positive regulation of apoptosis; apoptosis; germ cell programmed cell death; proteolysis; regulation of caspase activity; DNA damage response, signal transduction by p53 class mediator resulting in cell cycle arrest; DNA damage response, signal transduction resulting in induction of apoptosis; positive regulation of neuron apoptosis; protein processing; brain development; aging

Product Notes

The CASP2 casp2 (Catalog #AAA629020) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The CASP2, ID (Caspase-2, CASP-2, ICH-1 Protease, Neural Precursor Cell Expressed Developmentally Down-regulated Protein 2, NEDD-2, Caspase-2 Subunit p18, Caspase-2 Subunit p13, Caspase-2 Subunit p12) reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's CASP2 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, ELISA (EL/EIA), Western Blot (WB), Immunohistochemistry (IHC). Suitable for use in ELISA, Western Blot, and Immunohistochemistry. Dilution: ELISA: 1:1,000 Western Blot: 1:50-1:100 Immunohistochemistry: 1:10-1:50. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the CASP2 casp2 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "CASP2, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
