Related Product Information for anti-CAPN2 antibody
Calpains are cytosolic, calcium-dependent, cysteine proteases that are ubiquitously expressed in mammalian and avian tissues. Calpain-1 and 2 consist of a common small subunit and a large variable subunit. Domains in the large subunit include the amino terminal domain I, the proteinase domain II, domain III, and the EF-hand domain IV. Type I calpain requires micromolar amounts of calcium, while type II calpain requires millimolar amounts of calcium.

NCBI Description

The calpains, calcium-activated neutral proteases, are nonlysosomal, intracellular cysteine proteases. The mammalian calpains include ubiquitous, stomach-specific, and muscle-specific proteins. The ubiquitous enzymes consist of heterodimers with distinct large, catalytic subunits associated with a common small, regulatory subunit. This gene encodes the large subunit of the ubiquitous enzyme, calpain 2. Multiple heterogeneous transcriptional start sites in the 5' UTR have been reported. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Mar 2009]

Uniprot Description

Function: Calcium-regulated non-lysosomal thiol-protease which catalyze limited proteolysis of substrates involved in cytoskeletal remodeling and signal transduction.

Catalytic activity: Broad endopeptidase specificity.

Cofactor: Binds 7 calcium ions

By similarity.

Enzyme regulation: Activated by 200-1000 micromolar concentrations of calcium and inhibited by calpastatin.

Subunit structure: Forms a heterodimer with a small (regulatory) subunit (CAPNS1).

Subcellular location: Cytoplasm. Cell membrane. Note: Translocates to the plasma membrane upon Ca2+ binding.

Tissue specificity: Ubiquitous.

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the peptidase C2 family.Contains 1 calpain catalytic domain.Contains 3 EF-hand domains.

Sequence caution: The sequence AAH07686.1 differs from that shown. Reason: Contaminating sequence. Potential poly-A sequence. The sequence AAH11828.1 differs from that shown. Reason: Contaminating sequence. Potential poly-A sequence.

Product Notes

The CAPN2 capn2 (Catalog #AAA646487) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The CAPN2, CT (Calpain-2 Catalytic Subunit, Calpain-2 Large Subunit, Calcium-activated Neutral Proteinase 2, CANP 2, Calpain M-type, M-calpain, Millimolar-calpain, Calpain Large Polypeptide L2, CANPL2) reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's CAPN2 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB). Suitable for use in Western Blot. Dilution: Western Blot: 1:200-1:1000. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the CAPN2 capn2 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "CAPN2, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
