Molecular Function
The complement cascade is a multi-protein system that functions to clear pathogens from an infected host. Part of the innate (unchanging) immune system, the complement cascade consists of proteins and inactive zymogens that are present in blood and are stimulated by one of several triggers. Once stimulated, the cascade relays amplified responses throughout the body, ultimately activating the cell-killing membrane attack complex which can insert itself into the cell membrane and cause the cell to lyse. C7 (complement component 7) is an 843 amino acid secreted protein that participates in the formation of membrane attack complex (MAC), a complex that forms pores in the plasma membrane of target cells for innate and adaptive immune responses. As a membrane anchor, C7 exists as a monomer or dimer and can form multimeric rosettes with C5beta. C7 defects are the cause of component C7 deficiency (C7D), characterized by recurrent bacterial infections caused by Neisseria meningitidis.

NCBI Description

C7 is a component of the complement system. It participates in the formation of Membrane Attack Complex (MAC). People with C7 deficiency are prone to bacterial infection. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

C7: Constituent of the membrane attack complex (MAC) that plays a key role in the innate and adaptive immune response by forming pores in the plasma membrane of target cells. C7 serves as a membrane anchor. Defects in C7 are a cause of complement component 7 deficiency (C7D). A rare defect of the complement classical pathway associated with susceptibility to severe recurrent infections, predominantly by Neisseria gonorrhoeae or Neisseria meningitidis. Belongs to the complement C6/C7/C8/C9 family.

Product Notes

The C7 c7 (Catalog #AAA4754602) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The C7 Rabbit pAb reacts with Mouse and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's C7 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, ELISA (EIA), Western Blot (WB). WB: 1:500-1:2000. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the C7 c7 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "C7, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
