C19orf57/4930432K21Rik/BRME1 (BRCA2 and MEILB2-associating protein 1), which is a player for meiotic recombination in mice, associates with single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) binding proteins, BRCA2 and MEILB2/HSF2BP, which are critical recruiters of recombinases onto double-strand break (DSB) sites. C19orf57 is widely expressed in the testis, duodenum, and 17 other tissues. MEILB2-BRME1 is activated in many human cancers, and somatically expressed MEILB2-BRME1 impairs mitotic homologous recombination (HR). 129 organisms have orthologs with human gene C19orf57.
