NCBI Description

This gene encodes a death agonist that heterodimerizes with either agonist BAX or antagonist BCL2. The encoded protein is a member of the BCL-2 family of cell death regulators. It is a mediator of mitochondrial damage induced by caspase-8 (CASP8); CASP8 cleaves this encoded protein, and the COOH-terminal part translocates to mitochondria where it triggers cytochrome c release. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants have been found, but the full-length nature of some variants has not been defined. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

BID: a pro-apoptotic member of the Bcl-2 superfamily. Targets intracellular membranes and contains a BH3 death domain. Heterodimerizes with either the pro-apoptotic protein BAX or the anti-apoptotic protein BCL2, antagonizing its protective effect. The activity of BID is regulated by Caspase 8-mediated cleavage, exposing the BH3 domain and significantly changing the surface charge and hydrophobicity, causing translocation to mitochondria where it triggers cytochrome c release. Multiple alternatively spliced variants have been found.

Product Notes

The BID bid (Catalog #AAA420060) is an Antibody produced from Goat and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Goat anti-BID Antibody reacts with Tested: Human; Expected from sequence similarity: Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's BID can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Peptide ELISA (EIA), Western Blot (WB). Peptide ELISA: Antibody detection limit dilution 1: 8000. Western Blot: Approx 26+24kDa bands observed in Human fibroblast A431 lysates (calculated MW of 26.8kDa according to NP_932070.1 and 22. 0kDa according to NP_001187.1). Recommended concentration: 0.1-0.3ug/ml. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the BID bid for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. The amino acid sequence is listed below: TYVRSLARNG MD. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "BID, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
