NCBI Description

B4GALNT2 catalyzes the last step in the biosynthesis of the human Sd(a) antigen through the addition of an N-acetylgalactosamine residue via a beta-1,4 linkage to a subterminal galactose residue substituted with an alpha-2,3-linked sialic acid. B4GALNT2 also catalyzes the last step in the biosynthesis of the Cad antigen (Montiel et al., 2003 [PubMed 12678917]).[supplied by OMIM, Mar 2008]

Uniprot Description

B4GALNT2: Involved in the synthesis of the Sd(a) antigen (Sia- alpha2,3-[GalNAc-beta1,4]Gal-beta1,4-GlcNAc), a carbohydrate determinant expressed on erythrocytes, the colonic mucosa and other tissues. Transfers a beta-1,4-linked GalNAc to the galactose residue of an alpha-2,3-sialylated chain. Belongs to the glycosyltransferase 2 family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: EC 2.4.1.-; Membrane protein, integral; Transferase

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 17q21.32

Cellular Component: Golgi membrane; integral component of membrane; integral to Golgi membrane

Molecular Function: acetylgalactosaminyltransferase activity

Biological Process: lipid glycosylation; negative regulation of cell-cell adhesion; protein N-linked glycosylation via asparagine; UDP-N-acetylgalactosamine metabolic process; UDP-N-acetylglucosamine metabolic process

Product Notes

The b4GALNT2 b4galnt2 (Catalog #AAA2026752) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Polyclonal Antibody to Beta-1,4-N-Acetyl Galactosaminyl Transferase 2 (b4GALNT2) reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Beta-1,4-N-Acetyl Galactosaminyl Transferase 2 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), Immunocytochemistry (ICC), Immunohistochemistry (IHC) Formalin/Paraffin, ELISA (EIA). Western blotting: 0.5-2ug/ml Immunocytochemistry in formalin fixed cells: 5-20ug/ml Immunohistochemistry in formalin fixed frozen section: 5-20ug/ml Immunohistochemistry in paraffin section: 5-20ug/ml Enzyme-linked Immunosorbent Assay: 0.05-2ug/ml Optimal working dilutions must be determined by end user. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the b4GALNT2 b4galnt2 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Beta-1,4-N-Acetyl Galactosaminyl Transferase 2, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
