Related Product Information for anti-BECN1 antibody
Description: Rabbit IgG polyclonal antibody for Beclin-1(BECN1) detection. Tested with WB, IHC-P in Human, Mouse, Rat.
Background: Beclin-1, also known as also known as ATG6 or VPS30 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the BECN1 gene. Beclin-1 and its binding partner class III phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K), also named Vps34, are required for the initiation of the formation of the autophagosome in autophagy. This gene participates in the regulation of autophagy and has an important role in development, tumorigenesis, and neurodegeneration. Schizophrenia is associated with low levels of Beclin-1 in the hippocampus of the affected which causes diminished autophagywhich in turn results in increased neuronal cell death. It has been found that beclin-1 can promote autophagy in autophagy-defective yeast with a targeted disruption of apg6/vps30, and in human MCF7 breast carcinoma cells.

NCBI Description

Beclin-1 participates in the regulation of autophagy and has an important role in development, tumorigenesis, and neurodegeneration (Zhong et al., 2009 [PubMed 19270693]).[supplied by OMIM, Jul 2010]

Uniprot Description

beclin 1: an essential autophagy protein that has been linked to multiple processes including tumor suppression, protection against some cardiac and neurological degenerative diseases, and lifespan extension. A ubiquitous protein of the beclin family. Is part of the class III PI3K complex that induces autophagy. Expressed at elevated levels in dendrites and cell bodies of cerebellar Purkinje cells. Interacts with the anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-2, which inhibits autophagy when it is present in the endoplasmic reticulum. The dissociation of ATG6 from Bcl-2 is essential for its autophagic activity. Interacts with PITC and GluR-delta2. Probably forms a complex with AMBRA1 and PIK3C3. Plays a role in antiviral host defense. Protects against infection by a neurovirulent strain of Sindbis virus.

Product Notes

The BECN1 becn1 (Catalog #AAA177035) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Anti-Beclin 1 Antibody reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Beclin 1 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), Immunohistochemistry (IHC) Paraffin. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the BECN1 becn1 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Beclin 1, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
