Related Product Information for anti-BECN1 antibody
Beclin 1 is the mammalian ortholog of the yeast autophagy -related gene Atg6. It regulates autophagy and has an inportant role in development, tumorigenesis and neurodegeneration (1). Beclin 1 is localized within cytoplasmic structures including the mitochondria, yet overexpression reveals some nuclear staining (2). Researchers have found that schizonphrenia is associated with low levels of Beclin-1 in the hippocampus (3). It may also protect against infection by a neuorvirulent strain of Sindbis virus (4).

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a protein that regulates autophagy, a catabolic process of degradation induced by starvation. The encoded protein is a component of the phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase (PI3K) complex which mediates vesicle-trafficking processes. This protein is thought to play a role in multiple cellular processes, including tumorigenesis, neurodegeneration and apoptosis. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2015]

Uniprot Description

beclin 1: an essential autophagy protein that has been linked to multiple processes including tumor suppression, protection against some cardiac and neurological degenerative diseases, and lifespan extension. A ubiquitous protein of the beclin family. Is part of the class III PI3K complex that induces autophagy. Expressed at elevated levels in dendrites and cell bodies of cerebellar Purkinje cells. Interacts with the anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-2, which inhibits autophagy when it is present in the endoplasmic reticulum. The dissociation of ATG6 from Bcl-2 is essential for its autophagic activity. Interacts with PITC and GluR-delta2. Probably forms a complex with AMBRA1 and PIK3C3. Plays a role in antiviral host defense. Protects against infection by a neurovirulent strain of Sindbis virus.

Product Notes

The BECN1 becn1 (Catalog #AAA807620) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Rabbit Anti-Human Beclin 1 Polyclonal reacts with Human, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Beclin 1 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB). Western Blot: 1:1000. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the BECN1 becn1 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Beclin 1, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
