NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is involved in the synthesis of asparagine. This gene complements a mutation in the temperature-sensitive hamster mutant ts11, which blocks progression through the G1 phase of the cell cycle at nonpermissive temperature. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, May 2010]

Uniprot Description

ASNS: asparagine synthetase, an ubiquitous enzyme in mammalian organs, is involved in the first step of the synthesis of L-asparagine from L-glutamine and L-aspartate. Highly regulated in response to cell stress. Induced by dietary protein deficiency, imbalanced amino acid intake via the amino acid response, or ER stress via the EIF2AK3-eIF2-ATF4 branch of the unfolded protein response (UPR). Expression induced by nutrient deprivation or hypoxia in solid tumors. Essential for brain development but apparently not for that of other organs. Deficiency impairs brain development resulting in microcephaly and progressive cerebral atrophy, as well as deficiencies in learning and memory. The mechanism through which ASNS induces neuronal damage may be via damage induced by excessive excitability induced by elevated levels of aspartate/glutamate, via asparagine deficiency, or both. Three isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Product Notes

The ASNS asns (Catalog #AAA2027582) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Polyclonal Antibody to Asparagine Synthetase (ASNS) reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Asparagine Synthetase can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), Immunocytochemistry (ICC), Immunohistochemistry (IHC) Formalin/Paraffin, ELISA (EIA). Western blotting: 1-5ug/mL Immunocytochemistry in formalin fixed cells: 5-20ug/mL Immunohistochemistry in formalin fixed frozen section: 5-20ug/mL Immunohistochemistry in paraffin section: 5-20ug/mL Enzyme-linked Immunosorbent Assay: 0.05-2ug/mL Optimal working dilutions must be determined by end user. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the ASNS asns for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Asparagine Synthetase, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
