NCBI Description

This gene encodes a multi-pass membrane protein that is localized to the endoplasmic reticulum. It belongs to the sulfatase family and hydrolyzes several 3-beta-hydroxysteroid sulfates, which serve as metabolic precursors for estrogens, androgens, and cholesterol. Mutations in this gene are associated with X-linked ichthyosis (XLI). Alternatively spliced transcript variants resulting from the use of different promoters have been described for this gene (PMID:17601726). [provided by RefSeq, Mar 2016]

Uniprot Description

STS: Conversion of sulfated steroid precursors to estrogens during pregnancy. Defects in STS are the cause of ichthyosis X-linked (IXL). Ichthyosis X-linked is a keratinization disorder manifesting with mild erythroderma and generalized exfoliation of the skin within a few weeks after birth. Affected boys later develop large, polygonal, dark brown scales, especially on the neck, extremities, trunk, and buttocks. Belongs to the sulfatase family.

Protein type: EC 3.1.6.2; Hydrolase; Lipid Metabolism - androgen and estrogen; Membrane protein, integral; Membrane protein, multi-pass

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: Xp22.32

Cellular Component: endoplasmic reticulum; endoplasmic reticulum lumen; endoplasmic reticulum membrane; endosome; Golgi apparatus; intracellular membrane-bound organelle; lysosome; membrane; plasma membrane

Molecular Function: steryl-sulfatase activity; sulfuric ester hydrolase activity

Biological Process: epidermis development; glycosphingolipid metabolic process; post-translational protein modification; steroid catabolic process

Disease: Ichthyosis, X-linked

Product Notes

The STS sts (Catalog #AAA421131) is an Antibody produced from Goat and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Goat anti-Arylsulfatase C/STS Antibody reacts with Tested: Human; Expected from sequence similarity: Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Arylsulfatase C/STS can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Peptide ELISA (EIA), Western Blot (WB). Peptide ELISA: Antibody detection limit dilution 1: 32000. Western Blot: Approx 70kDa band observed in Human Placenta lysates (calculated MW of 65.5kDa according to NP_000342.2). Recommended concentration: 0.01-0.03ug/ml. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the STS sts for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. The amino acid sequence is listed below: QAGQKIDEPT SN. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Arylsulfatase C/STS, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
