Background: Long-chain-fatty-acid—CoA ligase 3 is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the ACSL3 gene. The protein encoded by this gene is an isozyme of the long-chain fatty-acid-coenzyme A ligase family. Although differing in substrate specificity, subcellular localization, and tissue distribution, all isozymes of this family convert free long-chain fatty acids into fatty acyl-CoA esters, and thereby play a key role in lipid biosynthesis and fatty acid degradation. This isozyme is highly expressed in brain, and preferentially utilizes myristate, arachidonate, and eicosapentaenoate as substrates. The amino acid sequence of this isozyme is 92% identical to that of rat homolog. Two transcript variants encoding the same protein have been found for this gene.

Uniprot Description

ACSL3: Acyl-CoA synthetases (ACSL) activates long-chain fatty acids for both synthesis of cellular lipids, and degradation via beta-oxidation. ACSL3 mediates hepatic lipogenesis. Preferentially uses myristate, laurate, arachidonate and eicosapentaenoate as substrates. Has mainly an anabolic role in energy metabolism. Required for the incorporation of fatty acids into phosphatidylcholine, the major phospholipid located on the surface of VLDL (very low density lipoproteins). Belongs to the ATP-dependent AMP-binding enzyme family.

Protein type: EC 6.2.1.3; Ligase; Lipid Metabolism - fatty acid; Membrane protein, integral

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 2q36.1

Cellular Component: endoplasmic reticulum; endoplasmic reticulum membrane; Golgi apparatus; lipid particle; membrane; perinuclear region of cytoplasm

Molecular Function: long-chain-fatty-acid-CoA ligase activity; protein domain specific binding; protein kinase binding

Biological Process: positive regulation of Golgi to plasma membrane protein transport; positive regulation of secretion

Product Notes

The ACSL3 acsl3 (Catalog #AAA178698) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Anti-ACSL3 Antibody reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's ACSL3 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB). Western Blot: 0.1-0.5ug/ml. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the ACSL3 acsl3 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "ACSL3, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
