Homohexamer.
Tissue Specificity
Isoform 4 is expressed exclusively in brain.
Function
Acyl-CoA thioesterases are a group of enzymes that catalyze the hydrolysis of acyl-CoAs to the free fatty acid and coenzyme A (CoASH), providing the potential to regulate intracellular levels of acyl-CoAs, free fatty acids and CoASH. Acyl-coenzyme A thioesterase 7/ACOT7 preferentially hydrolyzes palmitoyl-CoA, but has a broad specificity acting on other fatty acyl-CoAs with chain-lengths of C8-C18. May play an important physiological function in brain.
Preparation and Storage
Store at -20 degree C. Stable for 12 months from date of receipt.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a member of the acyl coenzyme family. The encoded protein hydrolyzes the CoA thioester of palmitoyl-CoA and other long-chain fatty acids. Decreased expression of this gene may be associated with mesial temporal lobe epilepsy. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms with different subcellular locations have been characterized. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

ACOT7: Acyl-CoA thioesterases are a group of enzymes that catalyze the hydrolysis of acyl-CoAs to the free fatty acid and coenzyme A (CoASH), providing the potential to regulate intracellular levels of acyl-CoAs, free fatty acids and CoASH. May play an important physiological function in brain. May play a regulatory role by modulating the cellular levels of fatty acyl- CoA ligands for certain transcription factors as well as the substrates for fatty acid metabolizing enzymes, contributing to lipid homeostasis. Has broad specificity, active towards fatty acyl-CoAs with chain-lengths of C8-C18. Has a maximal activity toward palmitoyl-CoA. 6 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: EC 3.1.2.2; Lipid Metabolism - unsaturated fatty acid biosynthesis; Hydrolase

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 1p36

Cellular Component: nucleoplasm; neuron projection; mitochondrion; cytoplasm; cytosol

Molecular Function: protein binding; protein homodimerization activity; acyl-CoA binding; palmitoyl-CoA hydrolase activity

Biological Process: medium-chain fatty acid biosynthetic process; coenzyme A biosynthetic process; fatty acid catabolic process

Product Notes

The ACOT7 acot7 (Catalog #AAA9629396) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The ACOT7 Antibody reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's ACOT7 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, ELISA (EIA)(peptide). ELISA(peptide): 1:20000-1:40000. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the ACOT7 acot7 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "ACOT7, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
