NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene catalyzes the transfer of galactose to lactosylceramide to form globotriaosylceramide, which has been identified as the P(k) antigen of the P blood group system. The encoded protein, which is a type II membrane protein found in the Golgi, is also required for the synthesis of the bacterial verotoxins receptor. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

A4GALT: Necessary for the biosynthesis of the Pk antigen of blood histogroup P. Catalyzes the transfer of galactose to lactosylceramide and galactosylceramide. Necessary for the synthesis of the receptor for bacterial verotoxins. Belongs to the glycosyltransferase 32 family.

Protein type: EC 2.4.1.228; Glycan Metabolism - glycosphingolipid biosynthesis - globo series; Transferase; Membrane protein, integral

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 22q13.2

Cellular Component: membrane; integral to Golgi membrane

Molecular Function: toxin binding; galactosyltransferase activity; lactosylceramide 4-alpha-galactosyltransferase activity

Biological Process: globoside biosynthetic process; glycosphingolipid biosynthetic process; plasma membrane organization and biogenesis; protein amino acid glycosylation

Disease: Blood Group, P1pk System

Product Notes

The A4GALT a4galt (Catalog #AAA8305926) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Anti-A4GALT Antibody reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's A4GALT can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB). WB: 1:500-1:2000. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the A4GALT a4galt for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "A4GALT, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
