Background: HTR1A(5-HYDROXYTRYPTAMINE RECEPTOR 1A), also called SEROTONIN 5-HT-1A RECEPTOR or BETA-2-ADRENERGIC RECEPTOR-LIKE PROTEIN G-21, is a subtype of 5-HT receptor that binds the endogenous neurotransmitter serotonin. It is a G protein-coupled receptor(GPCR) that is coupled to Gi/Go and mediates inhibitory neurotransmission. HTR1A denotes the human gene encoding for the receptor. The HTR1A gene is located at 5q12.3. The decreases in 5-HT-1A receptor densities correlated with decreased glucose utilization as measured by PET scan. Activation of 5-HT-1A receptors has been demonstrated to impair cognition, learning, and memory by inhibiting the release of glutamate and acetylcholine in various areas of the brain. 5-HT-1A receptors in the dorsal raphe nucleus are co-localized with neurokinin 1(NK1) receptors and have been shown to inhibit the release of substance P, their endogenous ligand.
NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
NCBI Description
This gene encodes a G protein-coupled receptor for 5-hydroxytryptamine (serotonin), and belongs to the 5-hydroxytryptamine receptor subfamily. Serotonin has been implicated in a number of physiologic processes and pathologic conditions. Inactivation of this gene in mice results in behavior consistent with an increased anxiety and stress response. Mutation in the promoter of this gene has been associated with menstrual cycle-dependent periodic fevers. [provided by RefSeq, Jun 2012]
Uniprot Description
5-HT(1A): This is one of the several different receptors for 5- hydroxytryptamine (serotonin), a biogenic hormone that functions as a neurotransmitter, a hormone, and a mitogen. The activity of this receptor is mediated by G proteins that inhibit adenylate cyclase activity. Belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor 1 family. 5- hydroxytryptamine receptor subfamily. HTR1A sub-subfamily.

Optimal dilutions should be determined by end users. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the HTR1A htr1a for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "5HT1A Receptor, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
