Principle of the Assay: This assay employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate PLXNC1 in samples. An antibody specific for PLXNC1 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anyPLXNC1 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for PLXNC1 is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of PLXNC1 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a member of the plexin family. Plexins are transmembrane receptors for semaphorins, a large family of proteins that regulate axon guidance, cell motility and migration, and the immune response. The encoded protein and its ligand regulate melanocyte adhesion, and viral semaphorins may modulate the immune response by binding to this receptor. The encoded protein may be a tumor suppressor protein for melanoma. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been observed for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2011]
