Intended Uses: The kit is a sandwich enzyme immunoassay for in vitro quantitative measurement of CNTF in mouse serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell lysates, cell culture supernates and other biological fluids.

Principle of the Assay: The microtiter plate provided in this kit has been pre-coated with an antibody specific to CNTF. Standards or samples are then added to the appropriate microtiter plate wells with a biotin-conjugated antibody preparation specific to CNTF. Next, Avidin conjugated to Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to each microplate well and incubated. After TMB substrate solution is added, only those wells that contain CNTF, biotin-conjugated antibody and enzyme-conjugated Avidin will exhibit a change in color. The enzyme-substrate reaction is terminated by the addition of sulphuric acid solution and the color change is measured spectrophotometrically at a wavelength of 450nm +/- 10nm. The concentration of CNTF in the samples is then determined by comparing the O.D. of the samples to the standard curve.

NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is a polypeptide hormone whose actions appear to be restricted to the nervous system where it promotes neurotransmitter synthesis and neurite outgrowth in certain neuronal populations. The protein is a potent survival factor for neurons and oligodendrocytes, and it may be involved in reducing tissue destruction during inflammatory attacks. A read-through transcript variant composed of Zfp91 and Cntf sequences has been identified, but it is thought to be non-coding. Read-through transcription of Zfp91 and Cntf has been observed in both human and mouse. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2008]
