NCBI Description

This gene encodes one of five subunits of eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2B (EIF2B), a GTP exchange factor for eukaryotic initiation factor 2 and an essential regulator for protein synthesis. Mutations in this gene and the genes encoding other EIF2B subunits have been associated with leukoencephalopathy with vanishing white matter. [provided by RefSeq, Nov 2009]

Uniprot Description

eIF2B-epsilon: eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2B, subunit 5. A translational regulatory protein that functions in the early steps of protein synthesis by catalyzing the exchange of eukaryotic initiation factor 2-bound GDP for GTP. Mutation in EIF2B5 causes childhood ataxia with central nervous system hypomyelination/ vanishing white matter leukodystrophy.

Protein type: Translation; Translation initiation

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 3q27.1

Cellular Component: eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2B complex; cytoplasm; cytosol; nucleus

Molecular Function: protein binding; translation initiation factor binding; translation initiation factor activity; guanyl-nucleotide exchange factor activity

Biological Process: myelination; response to peptide hormone stimulus; translation; astrocyte development; positive regulation of translational initiation; cellular protein metabolic process; astrocyte differentiation; ovarian follicle development; response to heat; response to glucose stimulus; translational initiation; gene expression; negative regulation of translation initiation in response to stress; oligodendrocyte development; positive regulation of GTPase activity

Product Notes

The ZFP36 eif2b5 (Catalog #AAA834930) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. AAA Biotech's ZFP36 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Flow Cytometry (FC/FACS), Immunofluorescence (IF), Western Blot (WB). FC: 1:100 IF: 1:100 WB: 1:2000. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the ZFP36 eif2b5 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "ZFP36, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
