Species Reactivity Note
The antibody has been directly tested for reactivity in Western blots in rat and human tissues. It is anticipated that the antibody will also work with bovine, mouse and non-human primate tissues based on the fact that these species have 100% homology with the amino acid sequence used as antigen.
Biological Significance
Retinoic acid (RA; active metabolite of vitamin A) plays a prominent role in regulating the transition of proliferating precursor cells (such as carcinoma cells and neuronal precursors) to postmitotic differentiated cells (Joshi et al., 2005). The Retinoid X Receptors (RXRs) family (RXRalpha, beta and gamma) preferentially bind 9-cis-RA and regulate gene transcription by forming heterodimers with a second family of RA receptors. RAs have been suggested to potentially play a therapeutic role in cervical cancer (Abu et al., 2005). RAs are known to play key roles in neuronal development and an increasing body of evidence indicates that retinoid signaling may regulate synaptic plasticity and associated learning and memory behaviors (Lane and Bailey, 2005).
Preparation and Storage
Store at -20 degree C; stable for at least 1 year

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a member of the retinoid X receptor (RXR) family of nuclear receptors which are involved in mediating the antiproliferative effects of retinoic acid (RA). This receptor forms dimers with the retinoic acid, thyroid hormone, and vitamin D receptors, increasing both DNA binding and transcriptional function on their respective response elements. This gene is expressed at significantly lower levels in non-small cell lung cancer cells. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described. [provided by RefSeq, Jun 2010]

Uniprot Description

Function: Receptor for retinoic acid. Retinoic acid receptors bind as heterodimers to their target response elements in response to their ligands, all-trans or 9-cis retinoic acid, and regulate gene expression in various biological processes. The RAR/RXR heterodimers bind to the retinoic acid response elements (RARE) composed of tandem 5'-AGGTCA-3' sites known as DR1-DR5. The high affinity ligand for RXRs is 9-cis retinoic acid

By similarity.

Subunit structure: Homodimer

By similarity. Heterodimer with a RAR molecule

By similarity. Binds DNA preferentially as a RAR/RXR heterodimer

By similarity.

Subcellular location: Nucleus

By similarity.

Domain: Composed of three domains: a modulating N-terminal domain, a DNA-binding domain and a C-terminal ligand-binding domain

By similarity.

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the nuclear hormone receptor family. NR2 subfamily.Contains 1 nuclear receptor DNA-binding domain.

Product Notes

The RXRG rxrg (Catalog #AAA500016) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Anti-Retinoid X Receptor, gamma-Isotype reacts with Human, rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Retinoid X Receptor, g-Isotype can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB). Quality Control: Western blots performed on each lot. WB: 1:1000. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the RXRG rxrg for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Retinoid X Receptor, g-Isotype, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
