Entrez Summary: This gene encodes a serine/threonine phosphatase which is a member of the protein phosphatase catalytic subunit family. Proteins in this family participate in pathways regulated by reversible phosphorylation at serine and threonine residues; many of these pathways are involved in the regulation of cell growth and differentiation. The product of this gene has been shown to participate in signaling pathways in response to hormones or cellular stress, and elevated levels of this protein may be associated with breast cancer development. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
UniPort Summary Function: May play a role in the regulation of RNA biogenesis and/or mitosis. In vitro, dephosphorylates serine residues of skeletal muscle phosphorylase and histone H1.

Uniprot Description

PPP5C: a Ser/Thr phosphatase. Plays a role in the survival of cells in a low oxygen stress by suppressing a hypoxia-induced ASK-1/MKK4/JNK signaling cascade that promotes apoptosis. Has been reported to interact with DNA-PK, dephosphorylating it at two functional sites. May play a role in the regulation of RNA biogenesis and/or mitosis.

Protein type: EC 3.1.3.16; Protein phosphatase, Ser/Thr (non-receptor)

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 19q13.32

Cellular Component: cytoplasm; cytosol; intracellular membrane-bound organelle; nucleoplasm; nucleus; protein complex

Molecular Function: ADP binding; ATP binding; identical protein binding; phosphoprotein phosphatase activity; protein binding; protein serine/threonine phosphatase activity; signal transducer activity

Biological Process: MAPKKK cascade; mitosis; positive regulation of I-kappaB kinase/NF-kappaB cascade; protein amino acid dephosphorylation; transcription, DNA-dependent

Product Notes

The PP5 ppp5c (Catalog #AAA475101) is an Antibody produced from Mouse Source: Human and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Anti-PP5 Mouse mAb reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's PP5 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB). WB: 1:1000. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the PP5 ppp5c for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "PP5, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
