Related Product Information for anti-NPAS4 antibody
NPAS4 belongs to the Per-Arnt-Sim family of neuronal specific transciption factors, all involved in the development and maintenance of learning and memory pathways (1). NPAS4 is a transcription factor that regulates the formation and maintenance of inhibitory synapses, and can activate the CNS midline enhancer element and the expression of the drebrin gene. Deregulation has been to be associated with developmental disorders such as schizophrenia and autism (2).

NCBI Description

may act as a transcription factor [RGD, Feb 2006]

Uniprot Description

Transcription factor expressed in neurons of the brain that regulates the excitatory-inhibitory balance within neural circuits and is required for contextual memory in the hyppocampus (). Plays a key role in the structural and functional plasticity of neurons (). Acts as an early-response transcription factor in both excitatory and inhibitory neurons, where it induces distinct but overlapping sets of late-response genes in these two types of neurons, allowing the synapses that form on inhibitory and excitatory neurons to be modified by neuronal activity in a manner specific to their function within a circuit, thereby facilitating appropriate circuit responses to sensory experience (). In excitatory neurons, activates transcription of BDNF, which in turn controls the number of GABA-releasing synapses that form on excitatory neurons, thereby promoting an increased number of inhibitory synapses on excitatory neurons (). In inhibitory neurons, regulates a distinct set of target genes that serve to increase excitatory input onto somatostatin neurons, probably resulting in enhanced feedback inhibition within cortical circuits (). The excitatory and inhibitory balance in neurons affects a number of processes, such as short-term and long-term memory, acquisition of experience, fear memory, response to stress and social behavior (PubMed:21887312). Acts as a regulator of dendritic spine development in olfactory bulb granule cells in a sensory-experience-dependent manner by regulating expression of MDM2 (). Efficient DNA binding requires dimerization with another bHLH protein, such as ARNT, ARNT2 or BMAL1 (). Can activate the CME (CNS midline enhancer) element ().

Product Notes

The NPAS4 npas4 (Catalog #AAA807346) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Mouse Anti-Rat NPAS4 Monoclonal IgG1 reacts with Mouse, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's NPAS4 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), Immunohistochemistry (IHC), Immunocytochemistry (ICC), Immunofluorescence (IF). Western Blot: 1:1000. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the NPAS4 npas4 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "NPAS4, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
