Related Product Information for anti-NGF-beta antibody
beta-NGF is a neurotrophic factor structurally related to BDNF, NT-3 and NT-4. These proteins belong to the cysteine-knot family of growth factors that assume stable dimeric structures. beta-NGF is a potent neurotrophic factor that signals through its receptor beta-NGFR, and plays a crucial role in the development and preservation of the sensory and sympathetic nervous systems. beta-NGF also acts as a growth and differentiation factor for B lymphocytes and enhances B-cell survival. The functional form of human beta-NGF is a noncovalently disulfide-linked homodimer, of two 14 kDa polypeptide monomers (240 total amino acid residues). The three disulfide bonds are required for biological activity.

NCBI Description

This gene is a member of the NGF-beta family and encodes a secreted protein which homodimerizes and is incorporated into a larger complex. This protein has nerve growth stimulating activity and the complex is involved in the regulation of growth and the differentiation of sympathetic and certain sensory neurons. Mutations in this gene have been associated with hereditary sensory and autonomic neuropathy, type 5 (HSAN5), and dysregulation of this gene's expression is associated with allergic rhinitis. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

Function: Nerve growth factor is important for the development and maintenance of the sympathetic and sensory nervous systems. Extracellular ligand for the NTRK1 and NGFR receptors, activates cellular signaling cascades through those receptor tyrosine kinase to regulate neuronal proliferation, differentiation and survival.

Subunit structure: Homodimer.

Subcellular location: Secreted.

Involvement in disease: Neuropathy, hereditary sensory and autonomic, 5 (HSAN5) [MIM:608654]: A form of hereditary sensory and autonomic neuropathy, a genetically and clinically heterogeneous group of disorders characterized by degeneration of dorsal root and autonomic ganglion cells, and by sensory and/or autonomic abnormalities. HSAN5 patients manifest loss of pain perception and impaired temperature sensitivity, ulcers, and in some cases self-mutilation. The autonomic involvement is variable.Note: The disease is caused by mutations affecting the gene represented in this entry.

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the NGF-beta family.

Sequence caution: The sequence AAH32517.2 differs from that shown. Reason: Erroneous initiation. Translation N-terminally shortened.

Product Notes

The NGF-beta ngf (Catalog #AAA690688) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Mouse Anti-Human NGF-beta reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. ELISA: In a sandwich ELISA (assuming 100ul/well), a concentration of 2.0-4.0 ug/ml of this antibody will detect at least 200 pg/ml of recombinant human beta-NGF when used in conjunction with compatible secondary reagents. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the NGF-beta ngf for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "NGF-beta, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
