Related Product Information for anti-MUC2 antibody
The mucins are a family of highly glycosylated, secreted proteins with a basic structure consisting of a variable number of tandem repeats (VNTRs) encoded by 60 base pairs (Mucin 1), 69 base pairs (Mucin 2) and 51 base pairs (Mucin 3). The number of repeats is highly polymorphic and varies among different alleles. Mucin 1 proteins are expressed as type I membrane proteins in addition to secreted forms. Mucin 1 is aberrantly expressed in epithelial tumors including breast carcinomas. Mucin 2 coats the epithelia of the intestines and airways and is associated with colonic tumors. Mucin 3 is a major com-ponent of various mucus gels and is broadly expressed in normal and tumor cells.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a member of the mucin protein family. Mucins are high molecular weight glycoproteins produced by many epithelial tissues. The protein encoded by this gene is secreted and forms an insoluble mucous barrier that protects the gut lumen. The protein polymerizes into a gel of which 80% is composed of oligosaccharide side chains by weight. The protein features a central domain containing tandem repeats rich in threonine and proline that varies between 50 and 115 copies in different individuals. Alternatively spliced transcript variants of this gene have been described, but their full-length nature is not known. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

MUC2: Coats the epithelia of the intestines, airways, and other mucus membrane-containing organs. Thought to provide a protective, lubricating barrier against particles and infectious agents at mucosal surfaces. Major constituent of both the inner and outer mucus layers of the colon and may play a role in excluding bacteria from the inner mucus layer.

Protein type: Secreted; Extracellular matrix; Secreted, signal peptide

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 11p15.5

Cellular Component: Golgi lumen

Molecular Function: protein binding

Biological Process: protein amino acid O-linked glycosylation; cellular protein metabolic process; O-glycan processing; maintenance of gastrointestinal epithelium; post-translational protein modification

Product Notes

The MUC2 muc2 (Catalog #AAA9436261) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The MUC2 Antibody reacts with Human, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's MUC2 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), Immunocytochemistry (ICC), Immunofluorescence (IF), Immunohistochemistry (IHC), Flow Cytometry (FC/FACS). WB: 1:500-1:1000 IHC: 1:50-1:200 ICC: 1:100-1:500 FC/FACS: 1:50-1:100. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the MUC2 muc2 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "MUC2, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
