Related Product Information for anti-GLUL antibody
Glutamine Synthetase catalyzes the conversion of ammonia and glutamate to glutamine. This reaction consumes a molecule of ATP:Glutamate + NH4+ + ATP, and produces, Glutamine + ADP + Pi. It is found in astrocytes as an octamer of identical 45kD subunits. The function of Glutamine Synthetase is the detoxification of brain ammonia. It also has an important role in controlling metabolic regulations of neurotransmitter glutamate. Because of the multiple functions and importance of Glutamine Synthetase in cellular metabolism, both catalytic activities and synthesis are highly regulated. The activity of Glutamine Synthetase is controlled by adenylylation. Its activity is decreased in the cerebral cortex of brains affected by Alzheimer's disease, particularly in the vicinity of senile plaques. It is also decreased under conditions of glucose deprivation. On the other hands, the level of expression of Glutamine Synthetase is increased during ischemia in vivo or hypoxia in culture.

NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the glutamine synthetase family. It catalyzes the synthesis of glutamine from glutamate and ammonia. Glutamine is a main source of energy and is involved in cell proliferation, inhibition of apoptosis, and cell signaling. This gene is expressed during early fetal stages, and plays an important role in controlling body pH by removing ammonia from circulation. Mutations in this gene are associated with congenital glutamine deficiency. Several alternatively spliced transcript variants have been found for this gene.

Uniprot Description

GLUL: This enzyme has 2 functions: it catalyzes the production of glutamine and 4-aminobutanoate (gamma-aminobutyric acid, GABA), the latter in a pyridoxal phosphate-independent manner. Essential for proliferation of fetal skin fibroblasts. Defects in GLUL are the cause of congenital systemic glutamine deficiency (CSGD). CSGD is a rare developmental disorder with severe brain malformation resulting in multi-organ failure and neonatal death. Glutamine is largely absent from affected patients serum, urine and cerebrospinal fluid. Belongs to the glutamine synthetase family.

Product Notes

The GLUL glul (Catalog #AAA633286) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Glutamine Synthetase (GS, Glutamate Decarboxylase, Glutamate-ammonia Ligase, GLUL, GLNS) reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Glutamine Synthetase can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Immunoprecipitation (IP). Suitable for use in Immunoprecipitation. Dilution: Immunoprecipitation: 1-2ul/400ul lysates. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the GLUL glul for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Glutamine Synthetase, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
