Preparation and Storage
Store at 4 degree C or at -20 degree C if preferred. This product should be stored undiluted. Storage in frost free freezers is not recommended. Avoid repeated freezing and thawing as this may denature the antibody. Should this product contain a precipitate we recommend microcentrifugation before use.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a 110-kD transmembrane glycoprotein that is highly expressed by human monocytes and tissue macrophages. It is a member of the lysosomal/endosomal-associated membrane glycoprotein (LAMP) family. The protein primarily localizes to lysosomes and endosomes with a smaller fraction circulating to the cell surface. It is a type I integral membrane protein with a heavily glycosylated extracellular domain and binds to tissue- and organ-specific lectins or selectins. The protein is also a member of the scavenger receptor family. Scavenger receptors typically function to clear cellular debris, promote phagocytosis, and mediate the recruitment and activation of macrophages. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcripts encoding different isoforms. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

CD68: Could play a role in phagocytic activities of tissue macrophages, both in intracellular lysosomal metabolism and extracellular cell-cell and cell-pathogen interactions. Binds to tissue- and organ-specific lectins or selectins, allowing homing of macrophage subsets to particular sites. Rapid recirculation of CD68 from endosomes and lysosomes to the plasma membrane may allow macrophages to crawl over selectin-bearing substrates or other cells. Belongs to the LAMP family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Cell surface; Membrane protein, integral

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 17p13

Cellular Component: membrane; lysosomal membrane; integral to membrane; plasma membrane; endosome membrane

Product Notes

The CD68 cd68 (Catalog #AAA224643) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The MOUSE ANTI HUMAN CD68 reacts with Primate, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's CD68 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Flow cytometry (FC/FACS)*, Immunofluorescence (IF), Immunoprecipitation (IP), Immunohistology Paraffin*, Western Blot (WB). Flow Cytometry: Use 10ul of the suggested working dilution to label 106 cells in 100ul. Flow Cytometry: Application Note: Membrane permeabilisation is required for this application. MyBioSource recommends the use of Leucoperm for this purpose. The Fc region of monoclonal antibodies may bind non-specifically to cells expressing low affinity fc receptors. This may be reduced by using SeroBlock FcR. Immunohistology - Paraffin: Application Note: This antibody requires heat-mediated antigen retrieval prior to staining paraffin sections. Citrate buffer, pH6.0, is recommended for this purpose. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the CD68 cd68 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "CD68, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
