CD55
CD55, also known as decay accelerating factor (DAF), is a 64-73 kDa GPI-anchored single chain glycoprotein that is expressed on all cells in contact with serum, including all hematopoietic cells and the vascular endothelium. A soluble form of CD55 is present in plasma and body fluids. CD55 is a member of the regulator of complement activity (RCA) family of proteins and is thought to play a role in the protection of cells from damage by autologous complement by preventing the amplification steps of the complement cascade. CD55 expression increases upon T cell activation and antibodies to CD55 are mitogenic in the presence of phorbol esters.1-5

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a protein involved in the regulation of the complement cascade. The encoded glycoprotein is also known as the decay-accelerating factor (DAF); binding of DAF to complement proteins accelerates their decay, disrupting the cascade and preventing damage to host cells. Antigens present on the DAF glycoprotein constitute the Cromer blood group system (CROM). Two alternatively spliced transcripts encoding different proteins have been identified. The predominant transcript encodes a membrane-bound protein expressed on cells exposed to plasma component proteins but an alternatively spliced transcript produces a soluble protein present at much lower levels. Additional, alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described, but their biological validity has not been determined. [provided by RefSeq]

Uniprot Description

CD55: This protein recognizes C4b and C3b fragments that condense with cell-surface hydroxyl or amino groups when nascent C4b and C3b are locally generated during C4 and c3 activation. Interaction of daf with cell-associated C4b and C3b polypeptides interferes with their ability to catalyze the conversion of C2 and factor B to enzymatically active C2a and Bb and thereby prevents the formation of C4b2a and C3bBb, the amplification convertases of the complement cascade. Belongs to the receptors of complement activation (RCA) family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Product Notes

The CD55 (Catalog #AAA674271) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Mouse Anti-Human CD55-PE reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's CD55 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Flow Cytometry; Immunohistochemistry (Frozen Sections). Flow Cytometry Suggested Dilution: 10 uL/10^6 cells. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the CD55 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "CD55, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
