NCBI Description

This gene encodes the alpha subunit of a transmembrane receptor for collagens and related proteins. The encoded protein forms a heterodimer with a beta subunit and mediates the adhesion of platelets and other cell types to the extracellular matrix. Loss of the encoded protein is associated with bleeding disorder platelet-type 9. Antibodies against this protein are found in several immune disorders, including neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia. This gene is located adjacent to a related alpha subunit gene. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2012]

Uniprot Description

ITGA2: Integrin alpha-2/beta-1 is a receptor for laminin, collagen, collagen C-propeptides, fibronectin and E-cadherin. It recognizes the proline-hydroxylated sequence G-F-P-G-E-R in collagen. It is responsible for adhesion of platelets and other cells to collagens, modulation of collagen and collagenase gene expression, force generation and organization of newly synthesized extracellular matrix. Belongs to the integrin alpha chain family.

Product Notes

The CD49b itga2 (Catalog #AAA6255709) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The CD49b (CD49b Antigen, Alpha 2 Subunit of VLA2 Receptor, Alpha 2 Subunit of VLA-2 Receptor, Collagen Receptor, GPIa, Integrin alpha 2, ITGA2, Platelet Antigen Br, Platelet Glycoprotein GPIa, Platelet Glycoprotein Ia, Platelet Membrane Glycoprotein Ia, Very reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's CD49b can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Flow Cytometry (FC/FACS), Immunohistochemistry (IHC). Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the CD49b itga2 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "CD49b, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
