Human CD44
CD44, also known as phagocytic glycoprotein-1 (Pgp-1) and the receptor for hyaluronate, exists as a large number of different isoforms resulting from alternative RNA splicing. The major isoform expressed on lymphocytes, myeloid cells and erythrocytes is a glycosylated type I transmembrane protein. Other variable isoforms containing glycosaminoglycans have molecular weights ranging from 110 to 250 kDa and are widely expressed on hematopoietic and non-hematopoietic cells. CD44 contributes to the adhesion of leukocytes to endothelial cells, stromal cells and the extracellular matrix. It also plays a functional role in cell migration, lymphocyte homing and adhesion during hematopoiesis and lymphocyte activation.1-6

NCBI Description

adhesion molecule involved in migration, cell fusion and resportion in osteoclasts that also plays a role in cellular metastasis [RGD]

Uniprot Description

CD44: Receptor for hyaluronic acid (HA). Mediates cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions through its affinity for HA, and possibly also through its affinity for other ligands such as osteopontin, collagens, and matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs). Adhesion with HA plays an important role in cell migration, tumor growth and progression. Also involved in lymphocyte activation, recirculation and homing, and in hematopoiesis. Altered expression or dysfunction causes numerous pathogenic phenotypes. Great protein heterogeneity due to numerous alternative splicing and post-translational modification events. Interacts with PKN2. Interacts with HA, as well as other glycosaminoglycans, collagen, laminin, and fibronectin via its N-terminal segment. Interacts with ANK, the ERM proteins (VIL2, RDX and MSN), and NF2 via its C-terminal segment. Isoform 10 (epithelial isoform) is expressed by cells of epithelium and highly expressed by carcinomas. Expression is repressed in neuroblastoma cells. 19 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Product Notes

The Cd44 cd44 (Catalog #AAA674135) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Mouse Anti-Human CD44-UNLB reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's CD44 (Pgp-1) can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Flow Cytometry; Immunohistochemistry (Frozen Sections); Immunoprecipitation. Flow Cytometry Suggested Dilution: <= 1 ug/10^6 cells. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the Cd44 cd44 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "CD44 (Pgp-1), Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
