Biological Significance
Butyrophilin (Btn) genes constitute a subgroup of at least 10 genes in the Ig superfamily identified in human, mouse, cow, goat and other species. The eponymous Btn gene (BTN1A1 in humans; Btn1a1 in mouse) is highly expressed in the secretory epithelium of the mammary gland during lactation. Other homologues are predominantly expressed in skeletal muscle and the intestine and erythroid cells. In contrast, BTN2A1 and 2 and BTN3A1, 2, and 3 are widely expressed in many tissues, suggesting that the structural domains of Btn proteins may have both universal and tissue-specific functions.
Cross-Reactivity
To be determined by the end user
Immunogen
Butyrophilin antibody was raised in mouse using Butyrophilin purified from bovine milk fat globule membrane as the immunogen.
Preparation and Storage
Store at 2-8 degree C for short term storage. Aliquot and store at -20 degree C for long term storage. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.

Uniprot Description

BTN2A1: a member of the BTN2 subfamily of genes, which encode proteins belonging to the butyrophilin protein family. The gene is located in a cluster on chromosome 6, consisting of seven genes belonging to the expanding B7/butyrophilin-like group, a subset of the immunoglobulin gene superfamily. The encoded protein is an integral plasma membrane B box protein involved in lipid, fatty-acid and sterol metabolism. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2010]

Protein type: Membrane protein, integral

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 6p22.1

Cellular Component: integral to plasma membrane

Product Notes

The Butyrophilin btn2a1 (Catalog #AAA830694) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Butyrophilin antibody reacts with Bovine and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Butyrophilin can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Immunohistochemistry (IHC), Western Blot (WB). Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the Butyrophilin btn2a1 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Butyrophilin, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
