NCBI Description

B cell-activating factor (BAFF) enhances B-cell survival in vitro and is a regulator of the peripheral B-cell population. Overexpression of Baff in mice results in mature B-cell hyperplasia and symptoms of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Also, some SLE patients have increased levels of BAFF in serum. Therefore, it has been proposed that abnormally high levels of BAFF may contribute to the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases by enhancing the survival of autoreactive B cells. The protein encoded by this gene is a receptor for BAFF and is a type III transmembrane protein containing a single extracellular cysteine-rich domain. It is thought that this receptor is the principal receptor required for BAFF-mediated mature B-cell survival. [provided by RefSeq]

Uniprot Description

BAFF-R: B-cell receptor specific for TNFSF13B/TALL1/BAFF/BLyS. Promotes the survival of mature B-cells and the B-cell response. Defects in TNFRSF13C are the cause of immunodeficiency common variable type 4 (CVID4); also called antibody deficiency due to BAFFR defect. CVID4 is a primary immunodeficiency characterized by antibody deficiency, hypogammaglobulinemia, recurrent bacterial infections and an inability to mount an antibody response to antigen. The defect results from a failure of B-cell differentiation and impaired secretion of immunoglobulins; the numbers of circulating B-cells is usually in the normal range, but can be low. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Product Notes

The TNFRSF13C tnfrsf13c (Catalog #AAA608169) is an Antibody produced from Rat and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The BAFF Receptor (BAFF-R, BR3, BLyS Receptor 3) reacts with Mouse and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's BAFF Receptor can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), Flow Cytometry (FC/FACS). Suitable for use in Flow Cytometry and Western Blot. Not recommended for Immunoprecipitation. Dilution: Flow Cytometry: 1:100 Western Blot: 1:500 Optimal dilution to be determined by the researcher. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the TNFRSF13C tnfrsf13c for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "BAFF Receptor, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
