NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the actin family of proteins, which are highly conserved proteins that play a role in cell motility, structure and integrity. Alpha, beta and gamma actin isoforms have been identified, with alpha actins being a major constituent of the contractile apparatus, while beta and gamma actins are involved in the regulation of cell motility. This actin is an alpha actin that is found in skeletal muscle. Defects in this gene cause aortic aneurysm familial thoracic type 6. Multiple alternatively spliced variants, encoding the same protein, have been identified. [provided by RefSeq, Nov 2008]

Uniprot Description

ACTA2: Actins are highly conserved proteins that are involved in various types of cell motility and are ubiquitously expressed in all eukaryotic cells. Polymerization of globular actin (G-actin) leads to a structural filament (F-actin) in the form of a two-stranded helix. Each actin can bind to 4 others. Up-regulated in response to enterovirus 71 (EV71) infection. Belongs to the actin family.

Protein type: Contractile; Motility/polarity/chemotaxis; Cytoskeletal

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 10q23.3

Cellular Component: extracellular space; smooth muscle contractile fiber; protein complex; cytoplasm; cytosol; actin cytoskeleton

Molecular Function: protein kinase binding; ATP binding

Biological Process: muscle contraction; regulation of blood pressure; response to virus; vascular smooth muscle contraction

Disease: Moyamoya Disease 5; Multisystemic Smooth Muscle Dysfunction Syndrome; Aortic Aneurysm, Familial Thoracic 6

Product Notes

The ACTA acta2 (Catalog #AAA6122503) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Actin, Muscle Specific (ACTA, ACTA1, ACTA2, ACTC1, Actin, ACTSA, Alpha-2 actin, alpha skeletal muscle, Alpha-actin-1, Cardiac muscle alpha actin-1, Skeletal muscle alpha actin-1) (Biotin) reacts with Human, Rabbit, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Actin, Muscle Specific can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Flow Cytometry (FC/FACS), Immunofluorescence (IF), Immunohistochemistry (IHC) Frozen/Paraffin, Immunoprecipitation (IP), Western Blot (WB). FC/FACS: 0.5-1ug/million cells IHC-F/P: 0.5-1.0ug/ml for 30 minutes at RT IP: 0.5-1ug/500ug protein lysate IF: 0.5-1ug/ml WB: 0.5-1.0ug/ml Applications are based on unconjugated antibody. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the ACTA acta2 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Actin, Muscle Specific, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
