NCBI Description

YrbE is in an operon with ABC transporter homologs and may be a permease protein. [More information is available at EcoGene: EG12800]. Yrbe is the membrane component of a predicted ABC superfamily toluene efflux transporter. [More information is available at EcoCyc: EG12800].

Uniprot Description

Function: Part of the ABC transporter complex MlaFEDB that actively prevents phospholipid accumulation at the cell surface. Probably maintains lipid asymmetry in the outer membrane by retrograde trafficking of phospholipids from the outer membrane to the inner membrane. Ref.4

Subunit structure: The complex is composed of two ATP-binding proteins (MlaF), two transmembrane proteins (MlaE), two cytoplasmic solute-binding proteins (MlaB) and a periplamic solute-binding protein (MlaD)

Probable. Ref.4

Subcellular location: Cell inner membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein Ref.4.

Disruption phenotype: Mutation confers sensitivity to SDS-EDTA and leads to accumulation of phospholipid in the outer leaflet of the outer membrane. Ref.4

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the MlaE permease family.

It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Probable phospholipid ABC transporter permease protein mlaE (mlaE), Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
