NCBI Description

The dynamic modification of cytoplasmic and nuclear proteins by O-linked N-acetylglucosamine (O-GlcNAc) addition and removal on serine and threonine residues is catalyzed by OGT (MIM 300255), which adds O-GlcNAc, and MGEA5, a glycosidase that removes O-GlcNAc modifications (Gao et al., 2001 [PubMed 11148210]).[supplied by OMIM, Mar 2008]

Uniprot Description

OGA: Cleaves GlcNAc but not GalNAc from glycopeptides. Can use p-nitrophenyl-beta-GlcNAc as substrate but not p-nitrophenyl- beta-GalNAc or p-nitrophenyl-alpha-GlcNAc. Possesses hyaluronidase activity. Acetylates 'Lys-8' of histone H4 and 'Lys-14' of histone H3. 3 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Acetyltransferase; EC 3.2.1.169; EC 3.2.1.52; Hydrolase

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 10q24.32

Cellular Component: cytosol; membrane; nucleus

Molecular Function: [protein]-3-O-(N-acetyl-D-glucosaminyl)-L-serine/L-threonine O-N-acetyl-alpha-D-glucosaminase activity; beta-N-acetylglucosaminidase activity; hyalurononglucosaminidase activity

Biological Process: glycoprotein catabolic process; N-acetylglucosamine metabolic process; protein deglycosylation; protein O-linked glycosylation

Product Notes

The NAGase mgea5 (Catalog #AAA2097706) is a Recombinant Protein produced from E Coli and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Recombinant N-Acetyl Beta-D-Glucosaminidase (NAGase) reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's N-Acetyl Beta-D-Glucosaminidase (NAGase) can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Positive Control, Immunogen, SDS-PAGE, Western Blot (WB). Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the NAGase mgea5 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "N-Acetyl Beta-D-Glucosaminidase (NAGase), Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
