Preparation and Storage
Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles. Store at 2-8 degree C for one month. Aliquot and store at -80 degree C for 12 months.
Stability Test: The thermal stability is described by the loss rate of the targetprotein. The loss rate was determined by accelerated thermal degradation test, that is, incubate the protein at 37 degree C for 48h, and no obvious degradation andprecipitation were observed. (Referring from China Biological Products Standard, which was calculated by the Arrhenius equation.) The loss of this protein is lessthan 5% within the expiration date under appropriate storage condition.

NCBI Description

heparin-binding growth factor; involved in early fetal development of the rat adrenal [RGD, Feb 2006]

Uniprot Description

Function: Developmentally regulated, secreted growth factor homologous to pleiotrophin (PTN), which has heparin binding activity. Binds anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) which induces ALK activation and subsequent phosphorylation of the insulin receptor substrate (IRS1), followed by the activation of mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) and PI3-kinase, and the induction of cell proliferation. Involved in neointima formation after arterial injury, possibly by mediating leukocyte recruitment. Also involved in early fetal adrenal gland development

By similarity. Ref.1 Ref.2

Subunit structure: Homodimer

By similarity. Interacts with ALK

By similarity.

Subcellular location: Secreted

Probable.

Tissue specificity: Expressed at a low level in arteries, and at higher levels in newly formed neointima. In brain, expressed in the caudate nucleus and the brain stem. Ref.1 Ref.3

Developmental stage: In the cortices of the adrenal glands, expressed at 12.5 dpc, decreases considerably at 15.5 dpc and is almost undetectable in the newborn stage. In brain, expressed at low levels in early embryos, expression peaks between E12 and E14, and rapidly falls until birth when expression is barely detectable. Ref.2 Ref.3

Induction: In arteries 3 days after injury. Expression continues to increase until day 7 after injury and decreases slightly by day 14. Ref.1

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the pleiotrophin family.

Product Notes

The MK mdk (Catalog #AAA2010039) is a Recombinant Protein produced from E Coli and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. AAA Biotech's Midkine (MK) can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, SDS-PAGE, Western Blot (WB), ELISA (EIA), Immunoprecipitation (IP). Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the MK mdk for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. The amino acid sequence is listed below: The target protein is fused with two N-terminal Tags, His-tag and S-tag, its sequence is listed below. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Midkine (MK), Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
