NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
NCBI Description
This gene encodes a type II keratin protein, which heterodimerizes with type I keratins to form hair and nails. This gene is present in a cluster of related genes and pseudogenes on chromosome 12. Mutations in this gene have been observed in patients with the hair disease monilethrix. [provided by RefSeq, Feb 2016]
Uniprot Description
Subunit structure: Heterotetramer of two type I and two type II keratins.
Tissue specificity: Synthesis begins slightly higher in the hair shaft than HB1 and HB3 and continues much farther up, ending in the keratogeneous zone. Ref.3
Involvement in disease: Monilethrix (MLTRX) [MIM:158000]: Autosomal dominant hair disorder characterized clinically by alopecia and follicular papules. Affected hairs have uniform elliptical nodes of normal thickness and intermittent constrictions, internodes at which the hair easily breaks. Usually only the scalp is involved, but in severe forms, the secondary sexual hair, eyebrows, eyelashes, and nails may also be affected.Note: The disease is caused by mutations affecting the gene represented in this entry. Ref.4 Ref.5 Ref.6 Ref.7
Miscellaneous: There are two types of hair/microfibrillar keratin, I (acidic) and II (neutral to basic).
Sequence similarities: Belongs to the intermediate filament family.

Product Notes
The KRT86 krt86 (Catalog #AAA9620453) is a Blocking Peptide and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. AAA Biotech's KRT81/86 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Blocking/Control. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the KRT86 krt86 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "KRT81/86, Blocking Peptide" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
