Related Product Information for SUV420H1 recombinant protein
Description: Recombinant full-length human SUV420H1 (KMT5B) was expressed by baculovirus in Sf9 insect cells using an N-terminal GST tag.
Scientific Background: Histone-lysine N-methyltransferase, Suppressor of variegation 4-20 homolog 1 SUV420H1 specifically trimethylates 'Lys-20' of histone H4, which in turn acts as a specific tag for epigenetic transcriptional repression. Located in pericentric heterochromatin regions, and plays a central role in the establishment of constitutive heterochromatin in these regions. Interacts with a family of proteins that display similarity with dual-specificity phosphatases (dsPTPases) mediated by its SET domains.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a protein that contains a SET domain. SET domains appear to be protein-protein interaction domains that mediate interactions with a family of proteins that display similarity with dual-specificity phosphatases (dsPTPases). The function of this gene has not been determined. Several alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2014]

Uniprot Description

SUV420H1: a protein methyltransferase that specifically trimethylates 'Lys-20' of histone H4. H4 'Lys-20' trimethylation represents a specific tag for epigenetic transcriptional repression. Mainly functions in pericentric heterochromatin regions, thereby playing a central role in the establishment of constitutive heterochromatin in these regions. SUV420H1 is targeted to histone H3 via its interaction with RB1 family proteins (RB1, RBL1 and RBL2). Strongly down-regulated in breast cancer cells. Belongs to the histone-lysine methyltransferase family. Suvar4-20 subfamily. Three alternatively-spliced isoforms have been described.

Protein type: Amino Acid Metabolism - lysine degradation; EC 2.1.1.43; Methyltransferase; Methyltransferase, protein lysine

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 11q13.2

Cellular Component: nucleoplasm; nucleus

Molecular Function: histone-lysine N-methyltransferase activity

Product Notes

The SUV420H1 kmt5b (Catalog #AAA515678) is a Recombinant Protein produced from Sf9 insect cells using baculovirus and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The immunogen sequence is Full length. AAA Biotech's SUV420H1 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB). Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the SUV420H1 kmt5b for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "SUV420H1, Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
