Related Product Information for IFNG recombinant protein
Human interferon-gamma (hIFN-gamma) is secreted by lymphocytes stimulated by mitogen and is involved in the differentiation, maturation, and proliferation of hematopoietic cells. Natural human interferon-gamma is composed of 143 amino acid residues without cysteine residues and is glycosylated. Recombinant human interferon gamma was expressed in E. coli and purified by FPLC gel-filtration chromatography, after refolding of the isolated inclusion bodies in a renaturation buffer. Additional amino acid (Methionine) is attached at N-terminus.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a member of the type II interferon family. The protein encoded is a soluble cytokine with antiviral, immunoregulatory and anti-tumor properties and is a potent activator of macrophages. Mutations in this gene are associated with aplastic anemia.

Uniprot Description

Function: Produced by lymphocytes activated by specific antigens or mitogens. IFN-gamma, in addition to having antiviral activity, has important immunoregulatory functions. It is a potent activator of macrophages, it has antiproliferative effects on transformed cells and it can potentiate the antiviral and antitumor effects of the type I interferons.

Subunit structure: Homodimer.

Subcellular location: Secreted.

Tissue specificity: Released primarily from activated T lymphocytes.

Post-translational modification: Proteolytic processing produces C-terminal heterogeneity, with proteins ending alternatively at Gly-150, Met-157 or Gly-161.

Involvement in disease: In Caucasians, genetic variation in IFNG is associated with the risk of aplastic anemia (AA) [

MIM:609135]. AA is a rare disease in which the reduction of the circulating blood cells results from damage to the stem cell pool in bone marrow. In most patients, the stem cell lesion is caused by an autoimmune attack. T-lymphocytes, activated by an endogenous or exogenous, and most often unknown antigenic stimulus, secrete cytokines, including IFN-gamma, which would in turn be able to suppress hematopoiesis.

Pharmaceutical use: Available under the name Actimmune (Genentech). Used for reducing the frequency and severity of serious infections associated with chronic granulomatous disease (CGD).

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the type II (or gamma) interferon family.

Product Notes

The IFNG ifng (Catalog #AAA650282) is a Recombinant Protein produced from Recombinant, Human, E Coli and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. Suitable for use in ELISA. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the IFNG ifng for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Interferon gamma, Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
