Intended Uses: This sandwich kit is for the accurate quantitative detection of human Semaphorin-3B (also known as SEMA3B) in serum, plasma, cell culture supernates, cell lysates, tissue homogenates.
Principle of the Assay: This kit is an Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). The plate has been pre-coated with human SEMA3B antibody. SEMA3B present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated human SEMA3B Antibody is added and binds to SEMA3B in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated SEMA3B antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of human SEMA3B. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

The secreted protein encoded by this gene is involved in the formation of a gel matrix that encases ejaculated spermatozoa. Proteolysis by the prostate-specific antigen (PSA) breaks down the gel matrix and allows the spermatozoa to move more freely. The encoded protein is found in lesser abundance than a similar semenogelin protein. An antibacterial activity has been found for a antimicrobial peptide isolated from this protein. The genes encoding these two semenogelin proteins are found in a cluster on chromosome 20. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2015]
